first-semester welcome day

On your first day, we want to help you get started with your studies. We offer a breakfast to get to know your new fellow students better and an introduction session by your new professors.

In addition, we always have an open ear for you and try to answer your questions.

Uni-ID

When you enroll, you will be assigned a university ID. This is always structured in the same way. It starts with s7 for the agricultural faculty to which our study program is assigned. This is followed by the first two letters of your first name and the first four letters of your last name. However, this only applies as long as the ID has not yet been assigned. An example for Max Mustermann would be s7mamust.

With the Uni-ID you can check your e-mail, log into the electronic course catalog where you can view current events or register for your exams, or log into e-Campus. On e-Campus you will find a folder for each module where important content such as the current lecture notes or exercise sheets are uploaded.

Events

Lecture: Here you can listen to the professors. As a rule, however, attendance is not mandatory.

Exercises: Attendance is mandatory for some of them. Often you have to work on assignments before or after the lecture, the submission of which is a condition for admission to the exam. In many exercises you will be divided into groups and only have to attend one appointment. The grouping takes place during the first lectures, a prior registration is not necessary.

Tutorium: Here you will receive help for your exercises, should you need it. Attendance is not compulsory. You can ask the tutors (students from the higher semesters) questions.

Geodetic Colloquium: Takes place several times per semester. Current research results are presented here. Attendance is not mandatory, but a large number of students is welcome.

Timetable

You can create your timetable via the electronic course catalog BASIS of the university.

Calculator/ Matlab

At the beginning of your studies you might need a graphing calculator for some modules. Usually the calculator from school is sufficient.

In your studies you will also use "Matlab". Matlab is a very comprehensive "calculator" for your laptop. You can use it to program and perform many mathematical calculations in your studies. Matlab is a paid program. Recently, the university offers a Matlab license, so that you get free access to it with your Uni-ID. As an alternative, you can also use the free software "Octave".

Apartment search

f you don't have an apartment in Bonn or the surrounding area, you can either use various apartment search services on the Internet (e.g. www.studenten-wg.de) or the Studentenwerk (www.studentenwerk-bonn.de) to find a place in a dormitory.

To do this, you fill out an application that you can find on the homepage and tick the dormitories you would like to live in. You will then be notified whether you have received a place.
